IntroductionWhen I saw the first trailer for dishonored, I started to want to play this game really bad. And when it came out, I was expecting an epic steampunk game, with the people being attacked by the plague, a ruthless enpire oppressing them and you being like seeking revenge because you've been framed, you know, the usuall stuff.
But when I started to play the game I felt surprised and disappointed with what I seen. Fortunatly, after a while, I understood what this game really is. This game is a little pearl. It is like those very well done indy games, that are really well done, but are also short. This game isn't epic in any way. It has three themes: Sickness, Steampunk and Dark Magic, all combined to create a very dark world. |
My score: 8.0 very good

gameplay
The gameplay is the best part about this game. It is a mixture between stealth and action (most like Deus Ex: Human Revolution). You can literaly either not kill anyone, cut everyone into tiny little pieces or stay somewhere in between.
There are 8 open world missions and 1 a little more linnear. I was amazed by the amount of paths and options every mission offers, wich means a lot of replayability.
The game is a bit short (8-10 hours) but there are so many things to discover and paths to try that you can stay up to 30 hours playing this game, just dicovering new paths, and 20 more hours trying to complete the Ghost and Didn't kill anyone achievements in all the missions.

The enemiesThis game features a huge varieity of enemies.
You have the regular swordsmen, from the easy to kill city watch guards, to the teleporting and ninjaish assassins. But there are also the super powerful tallboys;
Plague victim zombies;
People-eater rats, hagfish and there are even acid-throwing alienish things.

the Weapons and powers This game, unfortunatly, hasn't that much variaty in weapons. There is a crossbow and a pistol with their own different types of ammunition, you have grenades and springrazors, wich are mines that cut people into tiny little pieces.
However, there is a load of special powers that are very well done. They are unlockable through runes wich are hidden in the missions. There are enough runes to unlock them all, but not to upgrade them, wich means, you can be a jack-of-all-trades or someone specialised in three or four of them. These powers are good both for stealth and fighting. These powers are: Blink (teleportation);
Windblast (force push);
Bend time (stop time);
Dark Vision (see trhough walls);
Devouring swarm (summon rats)
There are also passive powers, like the more heatlh one (vitality) or the faster and bigger jumps one (agility).

The artstyle
The artstyle in this game is really characteristic. Because the game is powered with the Unreal engine (the one used in indy games) , the graphics are not that good, so, the artstyle makes the game look like a painting.
The art director didn't worry about realism, so this game has steampunk, Baroque and Victorian styles all combined within the city districts.

The story
The story is problably the worst part about this game. You have the usuall characters, the usuall revenge and the usuall bad guy. However, the acting is very good and there is a very good speech from the only boss this game has.
There are two endings, one for low chaos and one for high chaos. The chaos meter is a hidden mechanic that increases or decreases with the people you kill and other actions you take. The chaos meter also affects the amount of rats and weepers (zonbies) the missions have. Two endings can meen more replayability.

The best parts- The gameplay is unique and well done;
-The artstyle is beutiful; -There is a huge variety of paths to your objective in the missions. |
The worst parts-The game is too short;
-The story is shallow. |
Final score: 8.0 very good
final notes
This game, has the small and fun game it is, its not worth the 50 dollars it costs now, but, you wait till it appears on the steam promotions and you can buy it for 10 dollars and the game is well worth 30 dollars, so, if you see the game selling under that price, do not hesitate in buying it.
